Hagedorn was a long-time assistant coach for the MSSU baseball team under Warren Turner. He was a two-year letter winner for the Lions as he hit .288 as a senior in 1975 to earn first-team all-district honors at first base after hitting .328, with a team leading seven home runs and 26 RBIs, his junior year while seeing action both at first base and in center field.
