Sallie Beard

Beard served the MSSU Athletics Department for 37 years, as both a coach and an administrator. She was the first coach of the women’s basketball, softball, and tennis teams in 1974 and later started the women’s track & field program in 1976. She was named NAIA District 16 Women’s Track and Field coach of the Year in 1981 and again in 1983, when she led MSSC to the district outdoor title. She served as the school’s sole athletic director from 2001-2009 and was the women’s athletic director prior to that.
